Outstanding overtures as the RPO return to the Marina!

It promises to be an evening of passion and drama from the world of opera.

And when the world-class Royal Philharmonic Orchestra return to the Marina Theatre on Friday, September 1 for ‘A Night at the Opera’ – outstanding overtures, poignant arias and beautiful duets from some of the world’s favourite operas by Gounod, Bizet, Puccini, Verdi and more will be showcased.

Maestro John Rigby takes the helm, with highlights including songs from tragic love stories such as Puccini’s La bohème and Bizet’s Carmen, powerful epics including Turandot and Eugene Onegin, and playfully comic moments from operas such as The Marriage of Figaro.

The nature of the programme means this concert is a must-see for first-time opera goers and seasoned viewers alike, and it is a fantastic opportunity to hear stunning soloists Jeni Bern (soprano) and Alexander James Edwards (tenor).

Adam Wright, chairman of the orchestra, said: “There is the chance to listen to lots of opera tunes -  you get to hear all the famous tunes in one evening and with such variety on offer – it is sure to be a fantastic evening.”

Mr Wright has been involved with the orchestra for the past 11 years. After first playing the trumpet at the age of 8, Mr Wright continues to enjoy his visits to the Marina Theatre – which has been a residency of the orchestra since 2005.

"It’s a wonderful town, with a beautiful theatre," he added.

"Most importantly, the audience are really enthusiastic and really seem to enjoy us coming – for us on stage – that gives us a real buzz."

Once again, guests to the theatre can make the most of the new Celebration Packages for just £10 - which include a number of themed goodies to make the evening extra special.

Fraser Gordon, principal contrabassoon player, added: “You’ll be coming to see an orchestra of about 50 people, which makes it a real intimate experience for the audience.

"We try and provide you with very popular programmes and we might play some things you have never heard before!"

Tickets range from £27.50- £32.50 with under 25’s and group rates available.

The orchestra will conclude its 2017 Season with The Music of John Williams on 24th November . Hear your all-time favourite film scores performed live by a world-class orchestra, including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Superman and Indiana Jones.
