Up Stage programme – meet our tutors!

With the launch of our new Up Stage programme, comes more opportunities for you to take part in sessions led by our talented and experiences tutors.

Charlotte Polland will be leading the first of our new sessions on Tuesday 19th September 2017.

A Beginners Guide to Opera: Tosca – will lead you through a brief history of opera and explore the skill and technique involved.

This is an ideal session for anyone even a little curious about the world of opera.

Charlotte is a classically trained professional vocalist and voice and acting coach. She trained extensively with The London College of Music and has over 10 years experience of performing and coaching. Charlotte originally trained as a coloratura soprano performing in classical recitals incorporating opera, operetta, oratorio, lied and melodie.

The workshop, which will take place at Stella Maris Church Hall, runs from 2pm-4pm (18+) and from 4.30pm-6pm (9-18 years). Cost £15.

And don’t miss the live performance of Tosca by the Russian State Opera at 7.30pm on the 19th September. Workshop bookers can have TOSCA ticket for £20.

Next up are two Shakespeare themed workshops – which will be run by Simon Bridge.

Understanding Hamlet: To be, or not to be? on Thursday 5th October 2017 and Understanding Coriolanus: Did you wish me milder? – Wednesday 11th October 2017.

In more than 30 years as an actor, Simon has performed on stage, film, radio and on television. His theatre credits have ranged from Alan Ayckbourn to Agatha Christie and from pantomime to Noel Coward.

He has performed Shakespeare in almost every conceivable location, from the stormy battlements of Guernsey Castle to the stage at Shakespeare's Globe and from a London pub to a Roman amphitheatre in the Jordanian desert.

Since 1993 he has led thousands of workshops for the education department at Shakespeare's Globe, unlocking the secrets of Shakespeare's language for students of all ages and from all over the world, as well as directing performances by undergraduate students on the Globe stage. 

The workshops run from 2pm-5pm and are aimed at people over the age of 18. The £15 cost includes a ticket to the corresponding screening at 7pm.

Lizzie Stanley will be returning to teach A Beginners Guide to Ballet: The Nutcracker – Friday 13th October

Lizzie trained at London Studio Centre where she gained a BA Hons. 1st degree in Theatre Dance. She also has competed nationally and trained since childhood in Irish Dance.

Most recently Lizzie has been performing in Spirit of The Dance on its international tour, visiting China, Dubai, Israel, Europe and Canada, performing as lead female and understudy in the Israel and European legs.
She has also performed with The Pet Shop Boys at the Royal Opera House, in the hit musical Singin’ In The Rain and in the U.K. tour of Irelands Call.
