Never been to Last Night of the Proms before? Sarah tells us a bit more about what audiences can expect.

What do you love most about performing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra?
The very high quality of music making and I’m always made to feel very welcome.

What does Last Night of the Proms mean to you?
I just love the atmosphere, the sense of occasion. It just feels like a great British institution, people coming together to celebrate all that is wonderful about us as a nation.

What can audiences expect from these performances in June?
A fun-filled evening with a variety of accessible music for all.

Which songs are you looking forward to singing the most and why?
I am very much looking forward to singing The Laughing Song from Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. It’s a lively, fun song that it sure to put a smile on your face. I also feel very proud to sing Rule, Britannia! and see the audience singing loudly and waving their flags.

How do these concerts compare to other work you are doing at the moment?
These concerts are very different to the opera that I am working on at the moment, it is a new commission for Garsington Opera called Silver Birch and this is the world premiere whereas these concerts consist of well-established popular music that everyone knows.

What do you think is so special about seeing music performed live rather than listening to a recording?
The audience can feel a part of the excitement and intimacy that you can’t get on a recording and it is also a very different sound and experience to hear music performed live.

If someone is nervous or hesitant about coming to a classical concert, why should they attend Last Night of the Proms?
It’s a perfect concert for all ages and musical tastes and a fantastic introduction to live music. The audience can let their hair down and join in with famous songs such as Jerusalem and it’s thrilling to hear everyone singing and having a wonderful time!

Join Sarah Redgwick and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for this classical extravaganza on June 23. With a selection of well-loved classical masterpieces, popular arias and Proms favourites, it's sure to be a fun-filled evening!
