Mark Read to star as Aladdin in glittering family pantomime

He is best known as a star member of boyband A1 – who achieved eight top 10 hits and two chart-toppers in the UK alone.

But now, popular performer Mark Read will be turning his attention to the stage in Lowestoft, as he will star in the Marina Theatre’s glittering family pantomime Aladdin.

With two decades in showbiz among his many credits, heartthrob Mark is set to lead the cast in the title role of this classic Christmas pantomime tale.

With A1, Mark achieved global success after releasing three hit studio albums, earning a Brit award and appearing on the smash hit ITV show The Big Reunion.

As a solo star, Mark has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the business including Charlotte Church, Jarvis Cocker, Jason Donovan, Robin Gibb, Ronan Keating, Lee Mead, Michael Ball, and Michael Bolton.

Mark has also established himself as a confident musical theatre performer – enjoying successes in hit shows Guys and Doll and the new West End musical Seasons of Love.

Aladdin will be Mark’s third consecutive Christmas production, following appearances in Worthing and Portsmouth.

“Aladdin is the perfect panto for me,” he explained. “It’s action packed and full of adventure with bags of comedy and musical moments. It’s going to be magical.”

Returning for Lowestoft’s’ traditional pantomime, will be funny man Terry Gleed – back by popular demand.

The shows, which run from 13 December to 1 January 2018, will be directed by Richard Cheshire and choreographed by Helen Jeckells and promises to take audiences on an eastern adventure full of spectacle, sparkle and shine.

Pantomime producer, Paul Holman, said: “Mark has the perfect charm and charisma to play the slightly cheeky chappy character of Aladdin. His warmth and stunning vocal talents make him the right man for the role.”
