The new Trust which has this week taken on the running of the town’s Marina Theatre is officially launched today and with the future of the historic venue secured, management have unveiled the biggest season of entertainment to be seen at the Marina for several years.
The venues biggest ever marketing campaign will see over one hundred thousand season brochures distributed over the coming days and rehearsals for the new trust’s first presentation, pantomime Jack & The Beanstalk which opens on December 10 are in full swing. Already one of the biggest festive events in the region, this years pantomime stars Britain’s top piano playing Dame, Bobby Crush, the hilarious Sue Hodge from BBC Television’s ‘Allo ‘Allo and from children’s television show Hi-5, actor Chris Edgerley.
Over the coming months the venue will play host to a number of West End and national Tours including the hit musical Dreamboats & Petticoats, hilarious comedy Funny Peculiar, iconic 60s musical Hair and the long awaited return of the Agatha Christie Company with the classic Christie thriller, Murder On The Nile.
There is even more good news for theatre patrons as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will begin an unprecedented eighth year of Residency at the Marina in February and a number of international conductors and soloists have been secured including sensational Soprano Lesley Garrett and guest orchestra, the European Union Chamber Orchestra - featuring Julian Lloyd Webber.
Major star names include Pam Ayres, Jimmy Carr, Jimmy Tarbuck, Des O’Connor, Buddy Greco and Marty Wilde and children’s shows include for the first time ever Bob the Builder & Sesame Street as well in addition to brand new productions from Peppa Pig, Fireman Sam and The Little Big Club.
International events include the World famous Moscow City Ballet & Orchestra and from China, the brand new production from the director of Cirque Du Soleil’s Dralion & Ka - ShangHi.
Actress Beverley Callard swaps the cobbles of Coronation Street for the boards of Lowestoft with brand new comedy, Hormonal Housewives and more of her on screen colleagues can be seen in the hilarious romp Funny Peculiar which stars the award winning Craig Gazey, Vicky Entwistle, Dancing On Ice Champion Suzanne Shaw, Hollyoaks bad girl Gemma Bissex and Heartbeat’s Steven Blakeley. Murder On The Nile brings Dynasty’s Kate O’Mara, The Royal’s Dennis Lill, Footballers Wives’ Susie Amy and a host of other famous faces from stage & screen.
Over the past few weeks management at the Marina have been putting the finishing touches to the new season which will also see the return of the theatre’s hugely popular New Years Eve Gala and a number of community events including a special afternoon commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Waller’s air raid and two productions from local amateur group, The Lowestoft Players.
